In sol.-culture trials at Cuttack, Orissa, India during the kharif season of 1972, rice Ratna was given N at 0, 5, 10, 20, 40, 60, 100, 150 or 200 p.p.m. Grain yield/pot increased with increasing rate of applied N, from 5.7 g for the control given no N to 50.2 g at 60 p.p.m. N, and then decreased at higher rates. Straw yield/pot increased from 6.7 g for the control to 49.1 g at 100 p.p.m. N and then decreased at higher rates.
