Application to rice IR8 of 40 kg N + 30 kg P2O5 + 30 kg K2O/ha (50% N applied as a foliar spray or in pellets to the standing crop) in combination with suitable plant protection measures against pests and diseases gave paddy yields similar to those obtained with 60 kg N + 40 kg P2O5 + 40 kg K2O/ha applied as a basal dressing without plant protection measures; application of foliar sprays of 0.5% ZnSO4 and/or 0.025% ammonium molybdate in combination with the former treatment gave no additional yield.
