Murrah buffaloes in 4 groups of 4 were studied from 30 days before until 90 days after calving. Milk yields were measured by milking or weighing suckled calves. The buffaloes were fed according to weight, pregnancy, milk yield and fat content on mixed green feed and a concentrate mixture. Group 1 were given their calculated requirement individually. Group 2 had that amount as a group. Groups 3 and 4 had 120% of requirement individually or as a group. Mean milk yields and fat contents were 7.32 kg and 6.14%, 7.27 kg and 6.35%, 7.69 kg and 5.92% and 8.35 kg and 6.20%. Differences were not significant. Gains in the 4 groups before calving were 18, 47, 30 and 46.5 kg. After calving the buffaloes lost 93.5 to 99 kg.
