In trials with barley, an increase in irrigation frequency increased the soil m.c., leaf water potential, stomatal conductance, absorption of PAR (photosynthetically-active radiation), consumptive use of water and grain yield and decreased temp. and water-use efficiency. The contents of nutrients in plants decreased and their uptake increased due to an increase in soil m.c.
