Effect of pelleting on digestibility and productive effect of complete feeds for cattle with different proportions of starch equivalent, fibre and ballast feeds
In beef cattle the intake of a complete pelleted feed with 20, 30, 40 or 50% roughage was 13.58, 34.76, 43.72 or 38.46% greater than for the same feed given as meal. Average digestibility of DM was 1.57%, crude protein 1%, fibre 3.22%, nitrogen-free extract 1.67%, true protein 2.61%, organic matter 1.70% and phosphorus 0.11% less for the meal than the pellets and the digestibility of fat and calcium was 5.33 and 2.30% greater. Decreasing the fibre in the feed decreased the digestibility.
