Effect of seedbed growing medium and number of transplant pullings on certain agronomic, chemical and physical leaf measurements of flue-cured tobacco in Ontario

Seedlings of the flue-cured tobacco Delhi 34 were grown in muck or a muck/peat mixture to determine the effect of growth medium and time of pulling on the yield and quality of the crop. Seedling shoot and root dry wt. nearly doubled over the 10- to 14-day period between the 1st and 3rd pullings from both seedbed materials. Seedlings from the muck/peat seedbed were easier to pull by hand than from muck alone.
