Effect of sodium chloride and sodium sulphate on IRRI rice

Rice IR-8-288 was sown in 9 lb soil contained in 3 ft long, 9 in diam. cement pipes and NaCl or Na2SO4 was applied at (a), 0, (b), 2.5, (c), 5.0, (d), 7.5, (e), 10.0 or (f) 12.5 meq/g soil. There were significant reductions in number of tillers, plant ht., grain and straw yields and gram:straw ratio. The reduction in grain yield due to added NaCl was 4.8, 9,3, 24.3, 38.5 and 42.8% for (b), (c), (d), (e) and (f) compared with (a).
