An account is given of pot trials in which the soil pH was regulated to 4.8, 5.6, 6.7 and 7.4, and NPK fertilizers were applied. The seedlings in the unfertilized treatments exhibited good growth at all pH values, results being best at pH 4.5-5.5. The fertilizers had a beneficial effect only up to pH 5.5.
