In trials in 1973-4, after the winter rape harvest the land was tilled by several methods. Herbicides were applied to some plots prior to the cultivation of winter wheat. Conventional tillage was most effective in reducing weeds and encouraging the growth of a good stand of wheat giving opt. grain yields.
