Effect of soil moisture and nitrogen on mustard under Gangetic alluvium of Uttar Pradesh

Seed yields of 2 mustard were higher with irrigation applied after the depletion of 60 or 75% available soil moisture (ASM) in the top 25 cm soil layer than after 90% ASM or without irrigation. Yields were increased with increases in the rates of applied N from 0 to 120 kg/ha. The N X irrigation interaction was significant; highest yield (3.37 t/ha) was obtained with irrigation after 60-75% ASM and 120 kg N/ha.
