Effect of temperature on disease development of rice sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani

No significant differences were observed in the growth of R. solani on rice leaf sheaths held in the dark or light, but lesions developed more rapidly in the light. Mycelial growth increased with temp., 20-28 deg C. From 25-26 h after disease development, lesions on leaf sheaths were clearly defined and the lesion diam. then remained constant. Lesions developed much faster when the leaf was inoculated on the inner than on the outer surface of the sheath.
