Wheat Manitou was grown in 9-1 pots at day/night temp. of 27/12 or 22/12 deg C, with KNO3 at rates equivalent to 44, 88 or 132 kg N/ha and 5 soil moisture treatments. Grain yield was directly related to N rate, number of ears surviving to maturity, number of grains/ear and grain wt. Moisture stress applied between tillering (Tg) and last leaf visible (LLV) did not affect yield, but stress between LLV and anthesis (An) reduced it, especially at low temp. and high N.
