Effect of time of transplanting container grown tree seedlings on subsequent growth and development

During the first year, seedlings of Cedrus deodara, Platanus occidentalis, Nyssa sylvatica, Cornus florida, Betula maximowicziana, Pinus taeda and Pistacia chinensis grew better when transplanted into 3-gal than into 1- or 2-gal containers. Those of Platanus, Pistacia, Nyssa, Cornus and Betula were much larger if transplanted on 25 July rather than 8 August or 22 August.
