In experiments using trays containing loamy soil to which NaCl and Na2SO4 had been added at 0, 1, 3, 5 or 10% without or with an upper 2-3 cm layer of urea formaldehyde foam (Hygromull) mixed with water and nutrient sol. or of non-saline soil or peat, grass seed sown in soil containing 1% salt did not germinate.
