Effect of various binding materials and different times of budding on the bud success in pear

Buds of the pear Le Conte were budded 10 cm above ground level on wild pear suckers planted 5 X 60 cm in the nursery. The binding materials were rubber strips, jute fibre or polyethylene bands. Budding was carried out on 3 dates (1 and 15 June and 1 July). Polyethylene was the best binding material and 1 July was the best time (100% take).
