Effect of various levels of nitrogen and phosphorus on the forage yield and quality of oats (Avena sativa L.)

Effect of various levels of nitrogen and phosphorus on the forage yield and quality of oats (Avena sativa L.)

Ceylon Veterinary Journal 24(1/4): 31-34

In field trials in 2 seasons in 1973-5, oats Kent, FOS 1/29 and Algerian were given 0, 40, 80 or 120 kg N/ha and 0, 30 or 60 kg P/ha. Fresh matter and DM yields were highest from Kent and lowest from Algerian. Yields increased with increase in applied N up to 120 kg/ha in the 1st yr but only up to 80 kg/ha in the 2nd yr, and with increase in applied P to 30 kg/ha. Applying 60 kg P/ha did not increase yields significantly above those obtained with 30 kg P/ha.
