Effect of varying Ca:Mg ratios on yield and composition of corn (Zea mays) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa)

In field trials on 3 soils with near-neutral pH Ca:Mg ratios were varied by applying gypsum or MgSO4. At 3 of the 4 sites lucerne Vernal was sown and the following yr, harvests were taken as close to the late-bud stage as possible. The harvest material was weighed and sub-samples were collected from each plot for tissue analysis and m.c. determination. Site 4 was sown with maize and whole-plant samples of maize were collected at the 8-leaf stage.
