Effect of water deprivation on wool production of breeding ewes under semi-arid conditions

Thirty-nine Chokla ewes about 3 to 4 years old were in 4 groups and watered once in 24, 48, 72 or 96 h. Six ewes in each of groups 1, 2 and 3 were non-breeders and 7 ewes in each of 1, 3 and 4 were mated in spring and again in the following winter. Ewes grazed for 8 to 10 h daily and the stocking rate was about 1/acre. Autumn fleece weights of breeding ewes watered every 24, 72 or 96 h were 1.48, 1.26 and 1.63 kg, respectively, and spring weights were 2.47, 2.00 and 2.33 kg.
