Effective protection and comparative advantage in New Zealand forest enterprises: a comment

Analysis of data collected for the period 1965-66 suggest that, with the recent high price for export logs, New Zealand's comparative advantage currently lies in the export log trade rather than in a wood processing industry. Consequently no system of differential stumpages favouring wood processing can be justified on the grounds of tariff compensation.
