Evaluation of pyrantel pamoate, nitramisole and avermectin B1a against migrating Strongylus vulgaris larvae

Foals were reared worm-free and when 6 to 14 weeks old were infected with 2000 or 2500 infective larvae of Strongylus vulgaris. All the animals showed an increase in body temperature and reduction in appetite during the first week and the 5 which were not treated exhibted lethargy, depression, recumbency and, in one case, colic and 3 of them died 16 or 21 days after infection.
