Field observations were made in August 1972 on 13 species of ants found in Louisiana pastures inhabited by the fire ant Solenopsis invicta Buren. Behaviour of the different species resulted in avoidance of conflict with the S. invicta. Monomorium minimum (Buckley) apparently produced a defensive secretion that repelled S. invicta.
