First record of tussock caterpillar, Porthesia xanthorrhoea (Kollar) on sunflower

First record of tussock caterpillar, Porthesia xanthorrhoea (Kollar) on sunflower

Indian Journal of Entomology 40(4): 441-442

During a survey of pests and pollinators of sunflower carried out in New Delhi, India, severe damage of the leaves was observed. Most of the damage was due to Diacrisia obliqua (Wlk.), but of the specimens collected, a few were identified as Euproctis xanthorrhoea (Koll.) (Porthesia xanthorrhoea). This is the first record of the latter species in the region, and constant vigilance is essential to ensure that it does not attain pest status.
