Pairing of clones of alfalfa, M. sativa L., on the basis of honey bees, A. mellifera L. (high with high and low with low) failed to prevent discriminate foraging by bees in cages or in the field. About half the foragers visited only 1 clone of each pair, whatever the relationship. Bees showing complete specificity to highly attractive clones made longer foraging trips than bees specific to clones considered low in attractiveness. Highly attractive pairs of clones stimulated more caged bees to forage than the pairs with low attractiveness.
