Forest influence on the structure of Forest-Steppe soils and on the accumulation of humus in them

Forest influence on the structure of Forest-Steppe soils and on the accumulation of humus in them

Soviet Soil Science 9(6): 711-722

Soils at several sites in the Ukraine and Russia were studied. The A1 humus horizon of soils in a deciduous forest in the forest steppe acquires a very water-stable structure. The amount of water-stable aggregates in Gray Forest soils (in all subgroups) varies from 90-95%. The structure deteriorates in plowed Gray soils.
