Nineteen species of decay fungi were isolated from various positions on 190 out of 952 preservative-treated poles up to 10 yr after installation. In many of these cases decay was not visible. Poria carbonica and Poria placenta were the most frequently isolated species. Generally, decay frequency increased with check depth.
