Hill country - our life blood

Hill country - our life blood

New Zealand Agricultural Science 13(1): 1-9

Some issues associated with hill and high country are discussed from an extension worker's viewpoint. The intensity, magnitude, scope and relevance of pastoral hill farming, peculiar to New Zealand, are placed in a politically dependent perspective. Inhibiting factors experienced highlight the need for specific research in the hill environment to establish acceptable integrated management. The scale of the resource, future alternatives and potentials of hill country farming are outlined.
