Histochemical distribution of acetyl and butyryl cholinesterase in the tissues of a trematode Paramphistomum cervi

Histochemical distribution of acetyl and butyryl cholinesterase in the tissues of a trematode Paramphistomum cervi

Indian Journal of Experimental Biology 16(9): 968-972

Acetyl and butyryl cholinesterase activities were demonstrated in Paramphistomum cervi in the tegumental musculature, pharynx, intestinal musculature, excretory canals and bladder, tunica of ovary and testes, uterus, vitellaria and Mehlis' gland. Very weak activity of butyryl cholinesterase was demonstrated in the tegument and of acetyl cholinesterase in the lymph channels. Strong activities of both cholinesterases were demonstrated in the nervous system. Both enzymes were completely inhibited by 10-5 M eserine.
