Histometric investigations of the thyroid glands of pigs with treated and untreated goitre, with reference to the value of morphological findings for evaluating thyroid function

Archiv fur Experimentelle Veterinarmedizin 33(6): 861-867

The mean height of thyroid epithelial cells was 7.34 plus or minus 0.71 mu m in clinically healthy pigs, 13.77 plus or minus 1.97 in pigs with untreated goitre and 4.25 plus or minus 0.52 in pigs given a daily dose of 5 mg potassium iodide (between 50 and 110 kg body weight) for treatment of goitre. The follicles in the third group were between 150% and 300% the size of those in the first.
