The themes underlying the papers presented at the conference were the need to make the public even more aware of Britain's historic landscape, to stimulate local interest in the identification, recording and management of key features which characterize local landscapes, and the need for closer involvement of professional specialists with local volunteers in formulating the survey and conservation priorities applied to working landscapes.
