Hives and honey of Hymettus. Beekeeping in Ancient Greece

Hives and honey of Hymettus. Beekeeping in Ancient Greece

Archaeology 29(2): 80-91

The discovery and identification of clay hives at Vari is recounted (see AA 557, 558/74; 648/75). A further find, by A. Liangouras, is reported near Vrana in Marathon: two similar hives, still well preserved, that had been used mouth-to-mouth to form a coffin for a boy about 7 years old. The author's "Another country house in Attica", Archaeology 28(1) : 6-15 (1975), gives background information. E. E.
