Radioactive histidine was incorporated into the knob protein of Plasmodium falciparum in cultures better than was proline. A protein hydrolysate lacking histidine and methionine showed poor incorporation compared with proline and there was no incorporation of methionine or leucine. Probably the amino acid composition of the knob protein resembles that of a histidine-rich protein characterized from P. lophurae.
