Homozygous deficiency of short arms of chromosome 1 in Cavia porcellus L

Of 22 guinea-pigs studied, 2 were homozygous for the short-arm deletion of chromosome 1, and 16 were heterozygous. C-banding showed 1 dark band of pericentromeric heterochromatin that involved all of the short arm. Q- and G-banding techniques allowed the identification of all chromosomes in this species (2n = 64). The X-chromosome showed 2 bright Q-bands in the short arm and 3 in the long, but these bands did not appear with G-banding.
