Heifers weighing approx. 310 kg (11, 8, 10 and 10 per group) were each given 11 mg megoestrol/100 kg body weight daily for 9 days and 6 mg oestradiol in oil 2 days later. Another 2 days later, the groups were treated as follows: (1) 2000 IU PMS with an FSH:LH ratio of 2.8:1; (2) as in group 1, but the FSH:LH ratio was 1.7:1; (3) as in group 1, plus 500 IU HCG; (4) as in group 2, plus 500 IU HCG. A group of 6 heifers was untreated and served as controls.
