Immunologic factors and leukocytes in human milk

Immunologic factors and leukocytes in human milk

Mead Johnson Symposium on Perinatal and Developmental Medicine: 49-53

The lower incidence of enteric and respiratory infections and lower rates of morbidity and mortality in breast-fed infants appear to be due to an impressive array of resistance factors in human milk. The author discusses in some detail the origin and role of macrophages, neutrophils and lymphocytes in human colostrum and milk.
