Meiosis was studied in inbreds LS332/24, LS33/25, LS43/51, their F1 hybrids and the original allogamous population. Mean chiasma frequency was lower and univalents and stickiness of chromosomes more frequent in the inbred lines than in the original population. The frequencies of abnormalities in the inbred lines and their hybrids respectively were 0.5 to 3.0 and 1.0 to 1.5 laggards, 0 to 10.5 and 0.5 to 2.0 bridges, and 9.3 to 20.4 and 0.7 to 4.6 pollen sterility. The F1 hybrids also had a higher mean chiasma frequency and fewer univalents and less chromosome stickiness than their inbred parents.
