Influence of different moisture levels and mulches on fresh and dry weight of tops and tubers, top to tuber ratio and yield of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)

Weekly irrigation of potatoes gave the highest tuber yields of 36.6 t/ha because of the smallest (a) above-ground dry wt:tuber dry wt. ratio (0.45) at harvest; more or less frequent irrigation intervals gave yields of 28.0 and 26.2 t/ha and (a) ratios of 0.57 and 0.55, resp. The fresh wt. of above-ground parts increased up to 70 days after planting and decreased thereafter, while the dry wt. continued to increase till harvest because of the continuous accumulation of metabolites.
