Influence of ratooning practices on the growth and yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) cultivars

Four cultivars were harvested at maturity and ratooned either under rainfed conditions with or without a foliar N application (treatments M1 and M2 respectively), or in a regime with two irrigations (M3), or were harvested at ear emergence and ratooned under rainfed conditions (M4). Overall, the total grain yield per ha and dry matter production per plant, from the initial plant crop + ratoon crop, were greatest in CSH6, whereas the total dry stover yield per ha was greatest in R24.
