Inheritance and selection of some fruit characters of apple. II. The relation between leaf and fruit pH as a basis for preselection

Inheritance and selection of some fruit characters of apple. II. The relation between leaf and fruit pH as a basis for preselection

Euphytica 27(3): 761-765

Leaf pH in two-year-old seedlings was sufficiently related to fruit pH at a seedling age of six to seven years to allow preselection on the basis of leaf pH. Discarding all seedlings with an above-average leaf pH (40% of the total) eliminated the majority (74%) of seedlings with low-acid to sweet fruits.
