Morphogenetic studies on regeneration from stumps in the genus Quercus. II. Ontogenetic basis of regeneration. Importance of the morphogenetic centre of the hypocotylary apex

Morphogenetic studies on regeneration from stumps in the genus Quercus. II. Ontogenetic basis of regeneration. Importance of the morphogenetic centre of the hypocotylary apex

Annali, Accademia Italiana di Scienze Forestali 26: 63-85

In the preceding study on shoot regeneration from young stumps of Quercus cerris, Q. pubescens, Q. ilex and Q. suber the basal portion of the stem, originating from the hypocotyl of the seedling, was found to have a particularly strong regeneration potential. Results of further research on the structural origin of this potential, in which regeneration of different successive ontogenetic stages, starting from the embryo, was investigated in each species, are reported.
