In field trials with cocksfoot grown at 100-3600 plants/m2, competition increased with increasing plant density. Growth of surviving tillers was related to tiller death. The onset of plant death was earlier with higher plant density. After sowing on 10 May, plant wt. at the 1st harvest on 7 June was slightly decreased by increasing plant density and the difference increased with time.
