Occurence of hepatic amoebiasis in rats inoculated intracaecally with a virulent strain of Entamoeba histolytica

Occurence of hepatic amoebiasis in rats inoculated intracaecally with a virulent strain of Entamoeba histolytica

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 74(1): 140-141

Intracaecal inoculation of virulent Entamoeba histolytica produced infections in 10 of 14 rats; 5 showed hepatic amoebiasis with abscess formation. E. histolytica was isolated from the liver of all infected rats. Reasons for the preferential invasion of the liver by E. histolytica are considered.
