Abstract
2. Daily intakes of DM in the 4 groups during 308 days averaged 5.51, 6.54, 6.81 and 7.03 kg. Corresponding daily weight gains were 1032, 996, 1052 and 813 g. Energy requirements/kg gain reached 3.32, 3.55, 3.08 and 3.42 kEFr. For concentrate DM, requirements were 4.63, 4.20, 3.23 and 2.94 kg/kg gain. Results differed according to stage of the trial and were affected by other factors e.g., digestive trouble in the group given 33%. As complete feed throughout fattening, pellets with 40 to 50% straw were recommended for producing large final bodyweights.
