Physiological requirement for ratooning capacity of sorghum

Data from a study of tillering in 19 varieties revealed that (1) grain yield in the initial crop was significantly and negatively correlated with stem Brix readings at flowering and at harvest, (2) stem sugar content of the initial crop was not correlated with ratooning capacity and (3) the highest number of tillers in the ratoon crop was produced by IS5665 and IS4257 but the highest number of effective tillers in the ratoon crop were produced by 285, CSH7 and IS84.
