Plasma prolactin, progesterone and oestradiol-17 beta concentrations around parturition in the pig

Plasma prolactin, progesterone and oestradiol-17 beta concentrations around parturition in the pig

Animal Reproduction Science 1(4): 257-263

Hormones were measured by radioimmunoassay in blood samples taken from 2-15 days before until 1-4 days after parturition in four sows, and in one sow at prostaglandin-induced parturition. Between days 15 and 2 before parturition, prolactin concentrations in daily samples fluctuated, but rarely exceeded 10 ng/ml. Plasma progesterone levels gradually declined or remained high until about 2 days before parturition.
