1. Digestibility in vitro was not affected by the type of bird but was 65% where the bedding was rice husks and 50% with wood shavings. During the first weeks of accumulation crude protein content of the litter increased but thereafter remained constant due to loss of nitrogen through volatilization until at either 8 months for hens or 9 weeks for broilers N content decreased. Ash increased logarithmically with time.
