The activity of the broad-spectrum drug, Phenadex, was assessed. The preparation (1 ml) consists of the following: 70 mg phenylbutazone, 140 mg Isopyrin; 0.5 mg dexamethasone, 2.2 mg benzocaine, 1 mg methyl-4-hydroxybenzoate, 0.3 mg propyl-4-hydroxybenzoate, 50 mg Macrogol 200 and 1 mg sodium disulphite. The drug was shown to have favourable antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties when administered i/m, i/v or s/c to different domestic species. In vitro the drug not only inhibited but also killed Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pyogenes, Candida albicans and Penicillium expansum.
