Preliminary studies on the cultivation of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) for the production of sugar in Iraq

Sweet sorghum Rio, Sart and Roma were grown in the field and numbers of stalks/ha, juice quality as measured by Brix readings, pol percentage and pol yields, were determined. Values for number of stalks/ha were 102 641, 100 419 and 89 411 for Roma, Rio and Sart, resp. Roma yielded 28.4 t stalks/ha, followed by Sart with 25.6 t and Rio with 24.26.
