3 matched groups of 10 Black Pied cows received in a preliminary period a common ration supplying daily/cow 20 kg maize silage; in the experimental period, the control group continued on the common ration; for the 2 experimental groups the maize silage was replaced by comfrey silage made from plants cut in the flowering stage when 120-130 cm high, resp. at 20 and 30 kg daily/cow.
