Quality of weight gain of young stock in commercial crossing of Kholmogor cows with Charolais, Hereford and Aberdeen-Angus bulls

Two hundred Kholmogor heifers, and cows producing low-fat milk and not suitable for pedigree breeding, were divided into 4 groups and inseminated with (i) Kholmogor, (ii) Charolais, (iii) Hereford or (iv) Aberdeen-Angus semen. The 23 (i), 25 (ii), 24 (iii) and (20) (iv) male calves produced were reared to 18 months of age under common conditions of feeding and management. Control slaughter was at 0.6, 12, 15 and 18 months of age.
