Relationship between pollen load and flight in agaonid wasps

Relationship between pollen load and flight in agaonid wasps

Entomologische Berichten, Netherlands 37(5): 72-73

Observations of Allotriozoon heterandromorphum, which pollinates Ficus vogelii, indicate that wasps newly emerged from intact syconia can fly away only if they are carrying pollen in their mesothoracic pockets. When syconia were split open, the wasps crawled away without gathering pollen. J. M.
